We explore Vickie’s journey from her early days in the community to her expertise, and now business, in professional wig styling, as well as her experiences with inclusivity and representation in cosplay and the challenges faced by cosplayers who did not “fit” a specific physical appearance. We break down the uber commercialization of conventions, and the significance of maintaining a healthy balance between cosplay and personal life. Now… we could NOT have Ms. Vickie Bane on the pod without getting her essential tools for wig styling and her personal wig-stress advice. And wait for the end of the pod when we throw it ALL the way back to the VERY memorable times of roof running at Oni-Con 2!</image:title>
<image:caption>Victoria Bane is a DFW based cosplayer with 22 years of experience in multiple cosplay. mediums including sewing, leather working, resin casting, foam smithing, general prop making, 3D printing and modeling with an intense focus on wig styling. Their journeys as an MC have taken them across Texas, and now they're coming to the realest podcast on the block! Beginning in 2006 with their own flat ironed hair, a stack of hats, and a Prince of Tennis-fueled dream, they never imagined their love of anime would get them where they are today. Now, as the standard host of the San Japan cosplay contest and an organizer for contests across the years, they've been able to share their love of cons and contests with more than just their lovely wife and cats. Well, this episode won’t tell you how… BUT we do get into all of the backstage tea on voice acting for one of the largest anime production companies in the world! Host Zavage Cosplay interviews Bree Han about her cosplay journey where we discuss the rise of cosplay music videos, the lasting friendships they've made through conventions, and the dreaded post convention dinner scenario (IYKYK). We take a journey through Bree's experience into voice acting, her experience of landing her first voice acting role for Crunchyroll and the challenges in the industry. We cover LOTS of hot topics including the WeebCon cosplay contest follow up, the Arda Wigs statement and woes, and the controversy surrounding DisabilityComicCon. Join us for a truly packed episode!</image:title>
<image:caption>Bree Han is a professional voice actor and cosplayer of 10 years! Her first time cosplaying was her second convention at Oni-con 2013, and since then she’s made the transition to being a voice actor who also cosplays the characters she voices. Prior to cosplaying her own characters, what Bree loved most about cosplay was getting to be someone else for a day and feel confident by acting as another person. While that is still true, now there’s a certain special aspect to getting to cosplay a character that you are also the official voice of (such as Misaki from DMDP or Xiaolan from The Apothecary Diaries for Bree). The convention scene holds a special place in Bree’s heart as it introduced her to her passion of voice acting, and now conventions look a little different for her as a working professional in the field than they did before as a regular attendee. <image:title>Podcast Episodes - S1 E7 The Cosplay Crunch W/ Kadiaa Kawaii - In episode 7 of the Cosplay Crunch podcast, host Zavage Cosplay invites guest Kadiaa Kawaii (aka Lisa) to talk about her early convention journey as an award winning cosplayer, which eventually led to her career as an anime / cartoon focused tattoo artist before finally transitioning to a full-time artist who travels to art shows / Artist Allies at multiple different conventions. We talk about our early competition experiences, get the tea on the tattoo industry, dive into the secret insides of the Artist Alley community, and provide advice to listeners who are looking to compete in their first cosplay contest or masquerade.</image:title>
<image:caption>Kadiaa Kawaii (Lisa Hammock) is based in Houston, Texas and is a cosplayer turned artist alley vendor. Kadiaa first discovered what manga was at her middle school library, and later learned about anime conventions through reading Shojo Beat magazines. She finally attended her first real-life convention in a homemade cosplay in 2013, and needless to say, the convention scene was love at first sight. Kadiaa cosplayed at conventions from 2013 until 2018, and then returned to the con scene in 2022 to begin selling fan artwork in artist alley at conventions throughout Texas. Her fan artwork mostly features Magical Girls, such as Sailor Moon and Tokyo Mew Mew, and Pokemon. Kadiaa's favorite part about being an artist at anime conventions is getting the opportunity to discuss fandoms all day long with attendees! Find Lisa on Instagram @kadiaakawaii</image:caption>

<image:title>Podcast Episodes - S1 E1 The Cosplay Crunch w/ Owl & Coffee</image:title>
<image:caption>On our inaugural episode of the Cosplay Crunch, Zavage and Owl & Coffee discuss growing up and becoming an adult while cosplaying, the Houston Lolita community experience (girl…), the changes in cosplay from decades past to 2024, social media, and discuss a totally hypothetical cosplay reality competition scenario. All this and more on Episode 1 of the Cosplay Crunch! Hi! My name is Carol (Owl & Coffee on social media) and I've been cosplaying since October 2006 (almost 18 years now? Is that right???). I learned how to sew from my mom and grandmother because I wanted to learn how to make clothes for myself to realize the visions I had in my head, and that happened to coincide with the summer one of my best friends from childhood had gone to her first convention. She worked hard to convince me to go with her to her next one (Oni-con, in Houston) but I wasn't really convinced... until she mentioned that people dressed up. I'm not sure why, but THAT is what hooked me on the idea, and the rest is history! I always enjoy finding new and challenging things to create and I love running around conventions with my friends as the gremlin that I am! I have made so many friends and memories in my time in this community and I'm looking forward to many more! Find Carol on Instagram @owl_and_coffee Photo by @deaththeasian</image:caption>
